Like the Statue of Liberty, like the Eiffel Tower, Mt. Fuji is the symbol of Japan.
We took a tour bus that takes you up as high as you can go at this time of year by vehicle.
Part of the tour we took also takes you to the infamous "Suicide Forest" to visit the "Ice Caves". Along the way, more views of Fuju-san can be seen...if you are lucky. And we were.
For the forest and cave tour, you must don these awesome red speed suits.
Yup, that is a pretty memorable view.
Kris and Linda and Fuji-san.
The Suicide Forest. Yes, pretty creepy as far as forest go.
Cute.
Hiking to the cave.
There it is!
A slightly precarious descent to the mouth.
Linda, Kris and our guide.
Inside the ice caves there are all sorts of weird drippy ice formations.
They look cool under the focus light.
Ice monster hand.
Linda making friends.
After the ice caves, we went back to the same spot to take off our speed suits. Fuji was in clear view, which is a pretty lucky event considering it is almost always shrouded in clouds and fog.
It would be awesome to hike to the top.
Another view from the lake below.
Really beautiful.
We waited at this hotel for our return ride to Shinjuku. A very, very long day.
I love green Japanese pay phones.
Waiting.
Splayed fish for me!
Back in Shinjuku, time for some more...
...GUINEA PIG!
You just can't have a complete night in Tokyo any more without some Guinea Pig....
