Memorial Day at Plumas-Eureka State Park

On Monday we drove about 1 hour NW of Reno to Plumas-Eureka State Park.  It turned out to be
a very nice spot, and we hiked for about 6 miles.  We were all pretty tired from the day before
(including CeCe) but we managed to do serveral hours of hiking, much of what was up some
pretty steep inclines along very rocky terrain.  Supposedly we were in heavy Black Bear country
but we did not have any encounters, which was probably good...

Fordyce Lake - 05-27-07

On Sunday we went about 1 hour west into California to find some trails to Fordyce Lake.  The spot was pretty
cool, but there were a lot of other people there with everything from dirt bikes to rock crawling rigs in the way on
the trail as we drove in.  Other than that, the scenery was beautiful and we got in a good hike.  This spot would
make a great camping/canoeing destination.  There were several of these colorful moths on the trail around
the watery spots.

My pops is in town this weekend and today we went to the Black Rock Desert (just north of Reno
about 2 hours).  Its a huge dry lake bed.  We took some photos there, here are a few:

For the last couple nights I have awoken and remembered my dreams.  Its been a long time since I remembered
my dreams, which I guess means, something abnormal was disturbing my sleep for the last two nights, but I
don't know what.

Still burning...

Trip to Moab: Day 5

On Wednesday, it was time to make our way back across two states worth of loooooooong road. We left Moab about 7:30.  On the way home I wanted to see "Crystal Peak".  Crystal Peak is a weird mountain in the middle of the middle of nowhere.  Seriously, its out there.  A breakdown could mean a very serious situation.  Although we were very prepared for such a catastrophe, it was still a little nerve racking.  Highway 50 is barren enough, and we drove about 40 miles further into the big nothing to find Crystal Peak.  Something I wouldn't have even attempted without my new trusty Garmin GPS.  Linda was not impressed, but I thought it was pretty cool.  The white mountain sticks out like a sore thumb, and it is surrounded by crystal stones of all types.  I thought of Jim and the little brown sack he used to wear around his neck...

This car was one of the first interesting things we came across on the way.  Making sure my VX didn't end up like this was a thought....

On Monday morning we met up with Scott and Eric from the VehiCROSS.info forum.  We drove down to
Dead Horse Point, a spot my friend Steve suggested we see.

On Sunday morning we woke up and packed up the campsite.  As we pulled out of our spot, we spotted this critter on the road:

Trip to Moab: Day 1

OK, so I am going to break the posts from the last 5 days into separate posts for each day.
We took 5GBs of pics and 3 mini-DV tapes worth of video.

We left early Saturday morning and hit hwy 50 about 1.5 hours into the drive.  Highway 50 is also
known as Lincoln Highway, and also known as "The Loneliest Road in America".  There are several
very long stretches of nothing but beautiful Nevada high desert and Great Basin mountain ranges.
There are a few small towns on the way, one of which is Austin, right in the middle of the state. We
stoped for gas in Austin and checked out "Stokes Castle" below.

Its snowing in May...

Yes folks, its cold and snowing today in Reno.  Its May 4th by the way.  This morning I woke up to this on my back fence.  I think it was waiting for CeCe to come outside for breakfast.
