More Snakes?

Yes, more. The gettin's been good and this road is five minutes from home so here we go, another three snake night.

This gopher was by far the largest specimen I have seen. I didn't take an actual measurement, but I would say 4.5' or more.

Really nice, healthy animal.

This gopher has some serious girth.

All the snakes found on this night were removed from direct harm on the road. They were all, without a doubt, moments away from other cars hitting them.

After the gopher, a nice pair of Cal Kings were nabbed from the asphalt within minutes of each other.  The little one on the left gave me a bite.

I can't believe how many snakes live in this spot....

...so close to home and so close to so much human activity.

I held the snakes in the coolers for an hour or so for photos and to let traffic die down before releasing them away from the road.

Head spots.  I need to find a way to track individuals and see if I am recapturing the same snakes more than once.
