Here is Toyotathon in my driveway as we prepared to head out for 3 days in the NorNev back country.
The herd of bighorn we saw the previous year was still there in the exact same spot.
This time however they were a little closer so I was able to get some nice photos.
Male with an almost full rack.
We headed up the mountain to our spot on the top.
Except this got in the way keeping us from going any higher.
So, we headed back and decided to come up with a plan B. On the way the snakes started to appear.
Great Basin Gopher Snake #1.
I saw two other snakes in the same area, one yellow-bellied racer and I think I saw a desert whipsnake as well. They were too fast for me though.
This area is very snakey.
We saw the sheep herd again on the way down. There were several babies.
Not as many cows out there as last September, but there were some.
Texture.
Toyota advertisement.
This is Nevada. Not many places in the USA where you can see for miles like this.
In a rut there was water.
In the water there were tadpoles.
Boreal Toad or Great Basin Spadefoot Toad? Their tadpoles are very similar.
Campsite #1.
I hiked up high.
Sunset in the desert is always a welcome treat.
Clean air.

Me fat.
Campsite #2.
Chillin' and drinkin'.
Tom's butthut.
On the way down and around more snakes crossed my path.
Gopher #2.
Gopher #3.
And damnit! DOR leutosus!
Someone harvested the rattle too. A real bummer.
Campsite #3.
Time for a sampo.
Killer views here.
Fence.
The rock formations are awesome.
Up and down.
Linda, Kris and Tom walked right past this snake to the left of the trail. He popped out just as they passed by and was on the trail right in front of me. Talk about luck.
Crotalus oreganus leutosus.
I really like the light, sandy color of C. o.leutosus as opposed to the muddy darkness of C. o.oreganus.
Fiddling with open shutter.
Fiddling with lights.
Campfire.
Mixing it up.
Leaving, Tom got this cool shot of a coyote.
And a final treat on the way home!
This one a bit smaller than the other.
Snake in the grass.
Wildflowers.
A rather sophisticated toilet someone built out in the desert.

The iPhone 7 takes pretty nice panoramas. Click it to enlarge.
