When traveling, especially to far away places, animals are always on my radar. Whether wild or domestic, endemic or invasive, we are always interested. There's nothing more intriguing that getting off an airplane and hearing bird sounds you've never heard. Like food, this is one of my favorite things about traveling. Here is a collection of some animal highlights from the trip...
| Clown kitty from the Farm Sanctuary on Maui. |
| More kitties at the farm sanctuary. |
| Another kitty. |
| Deer at the farm sanctuary. |
| I guess these are Indian deer of some sort brought to the island decades ago for hunters. |
| All the kitties at the farm sanctuary were friendly, lazy and cute. |
| This is the lady that runs the farm sanctuary and her 600 square foot house. |
| Chicken Palace. |
| Yeah, that's a turkey. |
| Linda holding a chicken. |
| Buuuuuuckkkkkk. |
| . |
| This is Charlotte, a very friendly and cute pig. |
| In her mud hole. |
| Linda feeding Guinea Pigs. |
| Happy goats. |
| So many kitties. |
| Pot Belly Pig and tortoise are friends. |
| Cute goat. |
| At this pet shop there were these two sisters. |
| I wanted to adopt them both, that's how cute they were, and I REALLY don't want another cat. |
| And there were even some invasive herps to observe. |
| These brown anoles were pretty much everywhere. |
| My guess is Caribbean varieties. |
| And holy carp! A Malagasy Day Gecko out and about on Maui! |
| Not really a big surprise though, as these lizards are among the most beautiful in the world, so naturally, they are popular as pets. Just like South Florida, you have lots of ex-pet reptiles taking up residence in the wild. |
| But dayum they're pretty! |
| And even some green anoles! |
| I had two of these when I was a kid. |
| Wine Kitty. |
| Weird looking squirrel? Nope, that would be a mongoose. These are ALL OVER on Maui. And no, like everything else, they don't belong! Sadly, this was the only clear shot I got of one. |
