Silver Forked Toungues

Sunday we went west along 50 to Silver Fork Road to look for zonata. No
luck with the zonies, but we did see four snakes.  Two gophers and two
rattlesnakes.  I found the first gopher and then Beej found all three sub-
sequent serpents.  This is the first snake of the day.  It bit my brother
which was pretty damn funny.  The gopher snakes up in this area were
actually a lot more colorful than most of the gophers I have seen.

Only a few minutes later, we started searching another rocky area near by.  I hopped over a ledge
and my brother spotted the tail of his first Crot disappear into a deep crack in the rocks.  He almost
stepped down onto the snake, but luckily he spotted it first.  We couldn't get this one out for better
photos so this is the best I could do.

Cool mountain flowers.

Up on another ledge of granite Beej spotted this little juvi under a rock. It took
about 15 minutes to fish this little bugger out, but I am glad we did as Linda
got some cool video of the snake and my brother got a good view this time.
Unfortunately, this snake would not sit still and most of my photos suck.

The babies always have more vivid pattens and brighter colors.  This was a nice looking little one.

And then, just a couple rocks away, my brother found this juvi gopher.

Awesome!

  1. Yeah, I know. The gophers look awesome, but I think the crote was moving too much and I wasn't close enough.
