into San Francisco. Linda and I enjoyed a plate each of Okonomiyaki from
Izumiya.
Linda stayed in J-Town to shop while I took off for another afternoon of herping.
I drove over to the south end of Berkeley and met up with Ben from the FHF and his
friend Kevin. The first interesting find was this skink that CeCe scared into bolting out in front of us.
The poison oak was like grass in this area. It was EVERYWHERE. I tried really hard to avoid
it but I can feel my arms getting itchy as I type. Ben flipped the first snake of the day and it turned
out to be another Ring-necked snake. Strangely enough, a lot of the Ring-necks we found over
the weekend seemed to have old wounds. This one was missing an eye.
Pretty warning colors.
Then Ben scored again with this ANGRY Gopher Snake.
Tiny Yellow-eyed Ensatina.
"Over here"
Finally, I flipped a snake. This Ring-neck also had an old wound in the form of a missing tail.
Stubs.
ENORMOUS and disgusting banana slug.
I flipped my first adult Yellow-eyed Ensatina on Sunday as well. This one was very calm
and posed nicely for several shots.
And then the three of us rolled this huge log and uncovered another couple Ensatina and this
adorable little California Newt. It looks like a muppet.
From the top of the hill we had some amazing views.
Hazy, but visible San Francisco in the distance.
