The end of August in Bodie...

Friday afternoon we arrived around dusk.  The light was perfect as the sun set opposite some
stormy but non-threatening cloud formations.  We had no time to loose and snapped up as many
moments as we could.

We drove through the town and along an old state road in search of a campsite over the border.  Most of
terrain was vertical so we decided to turn back and camp at a site just west of the ghost town.

One final shot of Bodie as the sun set.

We made it to the campsite and had to setup in the dark.  Here is a photo from the next morning.

Bright and early we got up, packed up the camp and went back to Bodie for next few hours.  The following
is a selection of photos from the day.

Keeping vandals out or ghosts in?

I really want an actual fisheye to replace the crappy $60 adapter I have for the A620.

  1. that ghost town looks really kept up for a ghost town. My family was actually talking about going to bodie next summer and a few other ghost towns in california and nevada. How were the roads up there? Were they cliffy? My mom hates cliffs but we make her sit in the back seat and close her eyes...hehe.

  2. Yeah, Bodie is well maintained and guarded. There are actually park rangers that live there year round. The road to Bodie is no problem at all. Its paved almost all the way there, and then its just a gravel road up to the parking lot. Any vehicle could do it with no problem. If you keep going down the dirt road it gets a little rough but you wouldn't need to go that way anyhow. I think most of the well known ghost towns are accessible via a regular car so you should be fine. Rhylolite was paved all the way through and I would imagine Ft. Churchill is also. Let us know if you come down!
