Memorial Day Weekend Camping - Post 1

Perhaps it's like getting out of jail. Nah, maybe that's a little extreme. I guess it's more like being let out of school. Getting outta town for a three day camping trip was exactly what the doctor ordered.  Now I am back in my cube and all I can think about is restocking the coolers, filling up the tank, and heading back out again. Such is life.

So anyway, Friday after work we split and drove north. We arrived in the dark at our first destination around 10pm and promptly setup for the night and crashed. The next morning I would try and fail at fishing the ponds but that was OK since I would much rather catch snakes anyhow. So we broke camp and headed out to a more secluded area away from all the people that were congregated at the ponds.
This is the first of four gopher snakes we would encounter over the weekend on the roads.
These guys get squished all too often by people who are either not paying attention, don't care, or intentionally run them over, which is sad.
Snakes are part of a healthy ecosystem and part of a well balanced weekend of outdoor fun.
People also always mistake gopher snakes for rattle snakes and dispatch them with the nearest spade, shovel or other hastily made weapon.
Not only is this stupid, but it is founded in ignorance. No snakes, rattle snakes included, deserve to be whacked just because.
I live for this shit.
The new 4Runner.
Holy crap! Nevada Big Horn Sheep!
A whole heard of ewes and a few lambs/kids, whatever they are called.
This was a real sight, and a rare one at that.
The hillside where we saw them.  You wouldn't even notice them if they weren't moving.
As we drove down the trail, I spotted a Mule Deer resting in the shade by the creek.
Off she goes.
Wildlife was in abundance this weekend. Lots of hawks and other birds.
A well worn, but still very remote Nevada trail.
We drove on a bit more and stopped to grill hot dogs for lunch.  This dog made himself at home.
CeCe milled around like she does.
After lunch we set off to find a good campsite.
And we did!  I saved this spot on the GPS.
Linda setup her hammock and gave CeCe a doggie massage.
Still forgot em.
CeCe in the grass.
Luigi spent the better part of the day chasing ground squirrels. I swear they were playing with him.

Me and Luigi hanging out.
The view from the hammock. I am sold! I need another one.
I don't know if I could sleep in the hammock, but it is great for chillin.
Luigi likes to swing with papa.
Us.
Getting ready for bed.
The sunset was awesome.
Round Up Red.
A perfect end to a perfect day of camping. Perfect temperature, no wind, utter seclusion.

    1. I don't think this is the spot you are thinking of. But we did camp at the other spot where we camped a couple years ago (in the next post).
