Day 2 - Bite, Kick, Butt, Knock Down - Nara, Japan

Our first day trip was out to Nara, where the semi-tame dear wander and eat from your hands.
Deer cookies.

Linda getting mobbed.
Japanese school children and Nara deer.
Cute baby deer.
Monster praying mantis. Video below.

A Nara deer and his poo.
I had a few of these "hamburg" lunches while in Japan. Basically, a burger without a bun smothered in meaty gravy. It's actually more like a mini meat loaf than a bunless hamburger. Very tasty.
Linda's lunch.
I really don't know what these things were.  I think they were aged potatoes and pickled gourds of some kind. Either way, there was absolutely nothing about them that looks like something I want to eat, yet, I would love to have tried one.
Sun setting out our hotel window.
Linda and I took a walk over to Namba Parks that night, which is an extremely cool piece of urban architecture.

That night we went out for sushi. One of the goals is to try things we never see in the States. In the upper right, you have squid tentacles. The flavor is basically the same as octopus, which I quite enjoy, however, the texture is all knuckles. I ended up eating this again later in the trip because I forgot what they were. Gross.  The bottom right is sort of a politically incorrect thing to eat by American standards, and personally, I think it is a meat that is best left alive these days. But what can I say "when in Rome" I guess.  It was quite tasty.
Tom contemplating his next mouthfull.
A closer look at what was listed as simply "whale".
Another nice batch.
Me half drunk with one of Linda's fur collars on.
Some nice Asahi "Off".
