Nohting short of H U G E

So last night I was in the garage working.  This gigantic monster wandered in and needless to say, I was in awe of its enormity...

This gigantic beetle is what is known as a Pine Sawyer.

This bug was at least 3 inches long, and if you count the antlers, quite a bit longer.  It was slow, and seemed
to be basically harmless, although it did have a rather menacing pair of mandibles that look like they
might be able to pinch pretty good.

I cannot believe this insect could have survived evolution, as it could not right itself once turned over.
But then again, flat concrete patios are not really its natural habitat.

I took about 65 photos of it, and some video before letting it go.  This is by far and away the largest
live bug I have ever come across.  So big and disgusting looking, it even inspired some art.  :)
