Never skunked...a fine Easter Sunday.

It's been a few years since I hit one of my favorite Sonoma County snake spots. I've never been skunked herping here. And since I was already over in the area visiting my dad for the day, I figured I would hit the spot on Easter Sunday. Sundays are good, holiday Sundays are even better as you are less likely to see any people out and about.  Not matter what, you will always find snakes along this road in Sonoma County.  I was hoping for some Kings, but the weather was really cold (48F) and very wet. To be honest, I thought I might actually get skunked on the un-skunkable road, but nope...three snakes in 4 hours. I did see and smell a few actual skunks though...
Crotalus oreganus oreganus - the most abundant snakes along this road.
Where I crashed for the night.
The first herp was this skink I found under a board before I went to sleep.
Lizards were a plenty. Lots of skinks, fence and gators.
Another fence.
Another skink.
Another gator.
Ahhh yes, my favorite invert.
The first snake I turned up with this nice ring-neck.
As found under a piece of rotting plywood.
Not quite full grown but well on the way.
Don't eat me!
Another skink.
And another ring-neck. This one was TINY.
As you can see.
Speckles.

Another damn fence.
This one was funny...stayed just like this as I moved the rock it was huddled up against.
Skink and beetle.
And another.
And yet another.
Here is where I found the best snake of the day. I was surprised to see the snake here as the surrounding field was really sodden.
As found. Didn't move at all. I guess herping in the cold has it's merits.
A little tongue action once moved on top of the board, but no rattling. These guys are usually pretty chill.
A quick video made with my iPhone7 held with my tongs.

And one more Alligator Lizard.
About 9:30 a storm started to roll in. It got colder still and started to rain.
The 4Runner doing it's job.
Well, ok...
.

The day before I got to eat a Cesar salad from a spot in Napa that I personally feel serves the best Cesar salad I have ever eaten. I gotta say though, Linda is pretty damn good at Cesar salad herself.
Ga Know Cheeze
I got ahead of the storm and made it home in time for an Easter Roasted Chicken!
