who now conveniently lives in Petaluma. It was great to catch up
with him as we haven't talked or seen eachother in damn near
20 years!!! (thanks FaceBook)
After breakfast it was off east towards Sonoma county and Annadel State Park
for some more field herping. I was mostly out to find more salamanders, but to
my surprise I flipped a sharp tailed snake after about 10 minutes of looking.
Awesome little snake! Totally docile and posed nicely for the photo shoot.
One of probably 100 California Slender Salamanders I flipped.
Cool shrooms.
Scorpion. Wicked. Coolness.
One of the most surprising things to my nerdy brain was the inter-species cohabitation
under the rocks. Here you see several slender salamanders, a scorpion and several
beetles.
Under another rock, a slender sally and a scorpion as found. Basically, snuggled up together with out a
problem. Very interesting.
Toward the end of the hike I got lucky again and flipped another species I have
not encountered yet! A Yellow Eyed Ensatina! Sweet!
Habitat shot.
After the park we went to a favorite lunch spot in Sonoma where they have this uber-garlicky ceasar salad
that is to die for. And then we were off back to Reno!
Yikes! Scorpions on the coast!
