Dragons in Florida

From Reno to Vegas to Ft. Lauderdale and back in 4 days. This is what I got (in no particular order)...

Fantastic turkey vulture. I just love their fuzzy, skeletal, pre-historic heads.

My Mom at 3:00am Friday night.

Linda with her Mom, Aunt, sister and brother.

On Sunday, I went on a long walk with my dad and youngest brother. We set out along a path where I was told a large population of iguanas have taken up residence. Its been over 10 years since I left South Florida, and in that time several (probably 100s) of different exotic species have established populations in the area. It's a big ecological problem, yet fascinating and interesting.

A duck. For some reason I like ducks. Even these ugly ones.

A nice big turtle happily basking.

Some strange graffiti that caught my eye.

My dad and brother.

One of the first iguanas we spotted that I could get a good photo of.

A couple babies hanging out.

A cormorant or snake-bird.

The prettiest iguana I saw.

Me trying to catch one, and not fall in. My brother behind me.

This one was a monster. A real dragon. Probably almost 3.5 feet, snout to vent. I would say the total length of this guy was easily over 6 feet. Amazing.

The lawn furiture I slept on Sunday night, with a blanket that has been around for over 20 years, used to be mine when I was 10!

  4. If there is one thing I miss about Florida, it's the herps. There is shit everywhere. I saw 2 turtles, a snake and like 50 iguanas. And this is all in a regular urban area....
