To my surprise, the lizard was not very timid like most lizards I have encountered. He was wary, and kept a ball on me the whole time, but he did not run off as I suspected. I was about 2-3 feet away. Maybe he was actually smart enough to realize I couldn't get at him through the fence I was behind???

Western Fence Lizard
Today, while eating lunch outside, I spotted my first herp in Nevada. I promptly identified this little dude as a Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis), although there is a possibility that it might be a Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus graciosus). Its hard to tell, but I am 90% sure it is a Fence Lizard. Maybe next I will encounter a rattler....from a distance hopefully.
